Adopt a Cabin

Adopt a Cabin!

In the last 85 years Mount Carmel’s property has changed a lot! We’ve been blessed with generous donors who have given to build beautiful new year-round cabins! These cabins have allowed us to substantially improve our year-round ministry offerings.

At the same time we had to get rid of some of our oldest cabins to make space for the new ones. Even with those cabins removed we still have many historic cabins around Mount Carmel that are in need of restoration. One of the biggest struggles with these cabins is the old flaking wooden siding. Some have paint layers on them going back decades and decades. Every five years the paint on these cabins has to be painstakingly scraped off and reapplied in order to keep the wood siding in good condition. In 2024 we kicked off a new initiative to improve the old wooden siding and replacing it with maintenance free LP siding which should last for many decades while also improving the appearing, inner comfort, and decreasing the burden of upkeep.

A lot has changed since these cabins were built and guest expectations have as well. On our west end of camp, (cabins 1-11) more and more folks have been requesting air conditioning and heat in their cabins. In the summer months this allows families to rest better in their time away from activities. In the winter, cabins 4 and 7-11 host our college community students and Awaken Project Gap Year students. These cabins were designed to run in the fall and spring with electric baseboard heat, but now that they’re operating through the coldest months of the year, baseboard heat has become expensive to run.

We’re encouraging folks to adopt a cabin if that is an area of the ministry that you connect with. This adoption will allow us to improve cabins and host families for years to come. We are utilizing skilled volunteer labor and connections to supporters that work for companies which provide us dramatic savings for “at-cost” items as well as saving on labor costs. We believe the following donations would provide the necessary funds for updating cabins.

Of all of the cabins at Mount Carmel, Cabin 6 had fallen the farthest behind the rest in terms of quality and comfort. This spring we made some meaningful interior improvements to that cabin which will extend its lifespan. If you’re interested in supporting that effort please contact derek@mountcarmelministries.com
